Eagles may play friendly for Liberia

Stunned by the top class performance by the Lone Star of Liberia in Monrovia, the Nigeria Football Federation has intensified search for a possible international friendly for the Super Eagles ahead of the must-win Africa Nations Cup qualifying second leg tie in Calabar in October.

An impeccable source close to the Glass House disclosed yesterday that the Maigari-led board was in talks with some countries in order to provide the Eagles with a test game ahead of the clash.

“It was a very difficult match for the Eagles and I’m sure that the NFF won’t take chances in Calabar where the second leg will be played. As i speak with you, all hands are on deck to ensure that the Eagles qualify for the next edition of the Nations Cup in South Africa.

“It will amount to a big risk to go to sleep after the first leg in Liberia as we have heard that the Lone Star are also putting everything in place to make it to the Nations Cup finals.

“A part of the arrangements on ground is to ensure that the Eagles play a grade A friendly to further boost the confidence of the players. It is also mandatory to provide more video tapes of the Liberians for the national team technical crew,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles’ media officer, Ben Alaiya, in a telephone chat with SoccerStar yesterday, confirmed the friendly proposal, but stated that the Nigeria Football Federation had yet to give the go-ahead to the technical crew members.

It would be recalled that their Liberian counterparts held the Super Eagles to a-two all draw last weekend in Monrovia.
